The BLUE BUFFALO company has announced a recall for the following products:
The product is packaged in a 2 oz., plastic stand up pouch. Only these specific code dates of this product are involved:
- Blue Kitty Yums Tasty Chicken Recipe, UPC: 859610007820 - Best If Used By: April 24, 2016.
- Blue Kitty Yums Tasty Chicken Recipe, UPC: 859610007820 - Best If Used By: July 24, 2016.
Obviously, they should not be fed. You can contact the company should you have these products.
The FDA notice is here: (www.fda.gov/...)
Only this product is being recalled. I will note, however, that sometimes companies have additional products added, and just as often (probably more often) they don’t so…
I would appreciate you getting the work out on social media etc.
Hug your kitties!
UPDATE
Just for clarification purposes, I looked up the chemical and why it might be a problem for cats. Here (with a source link) is the issue:
While dogs and humans can tolerate small amounts of propylene glycol in their diet, cats cannot. Cats are extremely sensitive to this chemical!
Small amounts of propylene glycol ingestion in cats can cause something called Heinz body anemia. This is the same type of problem that happens when a cat ingests too much onion or garlic. (source)
